Mandie and Ryan got married last April.   They hired me to shoot their wedding at the beginning of my business, putting more faith in me than I had in myself.  On their wedding day, I fell in love.  Their family was beyond gracious and by the end of the night I felt like I was surrounded by friends.  I stayed in touch with Mandie and Ryan after their wedding through Facebook and an occasional text.  My favorite text came last Fall when Mandie told me that she and Ryan were expecting their first baby.  Miss Charlotte Grace made her grand entrance on April 20th.

Mandie and Ryan, thank you for sharing Charlotte’s first days with me.  I have known from the moment I met you just how in love you two are.  Seeing you with Charlotte is like seeing your love come to life.  Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl.  I love you guys!

And the winner is…..

I have spent the last 30 days collecting raffle money from an incredible group of people.  A group of people who came together, to donate their money for an equally incredible family.  The response was overwhelming!   Family, friends and clients of mine participated.  People messaged me saying they have known the Sage family for many years and are so thankful for an opportunity to help.  People even messaged me and said they found the link to the raffle on their friend’s Facebook page and wanted to participate even though they didn’t know me or the Sage’s.  I am in awe of how amazing this was.  So thank YOU!

Just like last year, I had my trusty assistant helping me.

The winner of the ASP 2012 Mother’s Day Raffle is…

Because of everyone’s generosity, I decided to pull a second winner…

Congratulations to Tamah Murphy and Conrad Hirshman!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to everyone who participated.  I am beyond thankful.  You have made a difference in someone’s life.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Heather+Steve: Hacienda del Sol Wedding

There are people who you meet in life and it clicks instantly that you want to know them more.  That is Heather and Steve.  When I met them, I liked them.  A lot.  But when we went out to dinner just a week before their wedding, I knew I loved them.  Their chemistry is perfect.  Steve is quiet and witty.  Heather is outgoing and hilarious.  They compliment each other perfectly, laughing and loving.

When I woke up on April 14th, I looked out my window and saw what no photographer, or bride, wants to see.  Rain.  A lot of rain.  I prayed, begged, crossed my fingers…and promised Heather I would perform some sort of anti-rain dance.  By noon the clouds had faded and the sun was shining.  Wedding bells were ready to ring.

We spent the day at Hacienda del Sol, one of Tucson’s most beautiful resorts.

I totally loved hanging out in the girls’ room.  It was such a positive, fun place to be.  Everyone was having a good time.

Lemme just tell ya…When I met Heather, she totally denied her photogenicity!  Then, I show up to her wedding and she rocks the camera.  I felt like I was being punked.  This girl is gorgeous!

Matt hung out with the boys while I was with the girls.

I love this shot of Heather’s dad and Steve.

Hacienda del Sol is gorgeous.  From the ceremony setting to the cocktail courtyard, it is amazing.   The lighting  is perfect.

The flowers by In Full Bloom were incredible.

I absolutely loved the portrait time we had with Heather and Steve.   They rocked it!!

This cake was insane!  Every little detail was perfect and I can safely say I have never seen anything like it.  Steve’s mom did a spectacular job.

I love this image!!

Marc from CE Entertainment  kept the party rockin’!

This is one of my favorite images of the day.  It captures the fabulosity of Heather and Steve perfectly.

Heather and Steve, I love you madly!  I am so glad that Matt and I were a part of your day.  You kept us laughing, smiling and being jealous that we aren’t a part of your family!  We wish you the best of the best.

Crystal+Brian: Tucson Wedding

I have known Brian since I was in elementary school.  He lived in my neighborhood.  We went to junior high together.  We had a couple classes together in high school.  He has always been a really nice guy.  Brian and I lost touch after high school, but when we reconnected a few years ago, there was something different about him.  While he had always been pretty carefree and happy, there was a sparkle in his eye that I hadn’t seen before.  That’s when I met Crystal.  At the time they were dating, but you could tell that when Brian looked at Crystal, he didn’t just see his girlfriend, he saw his wife.  On April 7, 2012, the 4 and half years Brian and Crystal have spent loving each other as boyfriend and girlfriend ended and they transitioned into a new a chapter as husband and wife.

My assistant Matt and I spent the day with Brian and Crystal at Angelica’s in Tucson, AZ.

Crystal was one of the sweetest brides ever.   She made everything for this wedding.  She personalized hangers for all of the girls, made the programs and table decorations, and even took the time to make personalized flower boxes for everyone.  SO sweet!

Oh holy hotness.   I love love love this image.  Crystal, you are beautiful.

This reception was an absolute blast!  Their DJ, Robert from RIJ DJ Entertainment knew exactly how to run the party and make sure everyone was dancing.

Crystal and Brian, thank you so much for allowing me and Matt to be a part of your wedding day and trusting us to document it.  The whole thing was perfect.  Every idea Crystal had came to life beautifully.  While these images cannot do your love justice, I hope that they give you a reminder of everything you felt that day.  I love you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Through the Years + My Best Friend’s Birthday

We have a different kind of relationship.  People probably think we are weird and I can’t say that I blame them.  You can often find us laughing hysterically at something nobody else understands, communicating nonverbally through a series of  eye motions and head nods, or texting about whatever TV show we are both watching, at the same time, at our own houses.  He calls me when he likes a performer on The Voice, when he watches a good movie, when the girls on Jerseylicious fight and when he misses my mom.  I call him when I make a good dinner, when Ava says crazy things and when I need a little boost in life.  He is my best friend.  He is my dad.   And today is his birthday.

In honor of my dad’s birthday I have compiled a list of 5 random facts about him.

1.  My dad is the only person who will ever hear me sing in Italian.  For whatever reason, my dad and I love Italian music.  I used to memorize songs and sing them to him when I was little.   Fifteen years later we are still listening to the same music, only now we have Ava hooked too.  If you’re ever stopped at a light next to a car bumping Finiculi, Finicula it is probably us.

2.  My dad is obsessed with Jersey Shore.  Like ob-sessed.  He loves it.  I won’t be surprised if he shows up to my house spray-tannned and fist pumping one day.

3.  My dad loves scaring people.  I couldn’t even type that without laughing.  Freal, my dad thinks it is so funny when people get scared.  I don’t mean like “afraid” scared, I mean like “my dad hides in the hallway and jumps out to scare the living crap out of you as you walk by” scared.  He used to do this to me and my cousin all the time and he would laugh so hard.  He finds it even funnier when it happens on accident.

4.  I could’ve written the book, “$h*! My Dad Says.”  The things my dad says are not only hilarious, but so original.  He has the best sense of humor.  Sometimes when he says things, I just stare at him, then he stares back because he knows what I am thinking, and we both erupt in laughter.  I think his filter, ya know the one that most people have in their brains that tell them when something is a good or bad idea to say out loud, is broken.  I should start a whole blog series about this very topic.

5.  We really are best friends.  There is this video from my first birthday that I can’t talk about out loud because it makes me cry, in which I am learning to walk and I am walking to my dad.  Lionel Richie is playing in the background and my sweet, young dad is there, with open arms, catching me when I fall.  (Little did he know that would be his job for many years to come.) I still can’t watch that video or even listen to that Lionel Richie song without crying.

There is another song from my grandparent’s 50th Wedding Anniversary video that brings me to tears because I always think of my dad.  It’s the Kenny Rogers song, Through the Years.  While this is a love song, there is are no better lyrics to describe my relationship with my dad.

I can’t remember what I used to do, who I trusted, who I listened to before.  I swear, you’ve taught me everything I know, can’t imagine needing someone so, but through the years it seems to me, I need you more and more.  Through the years, through all the good and bad I knew how much we had, I’ve always been so glad to be with you.  Through the years, it’s better every day, you’ve kissed my tears away.  As long as it’s okay, I’ll stay with you, through the years.
Through the years, when everything went wrong, together we were strong, I know that I belong right here with you. tTrough the years I never had a doubt, we’d always work things out.  I’ve learned what love’s about, by loving you through the years

Dad, you are my best friend.  You have done your and Mom’s job for the last 5 years and I appreciate you more than you know.   I would be lost without you and I pray that someday I can make you as proud as you’ve made me.  There will never be enough time in my life to repay you for everything you have done for me.  I love you so much.  Happy birthday, Dad.

Grayson’s Story + 2012 Mother’s Day Raffle

Grayson’s Story

I met Lana when I started teaching 5 years ago.  From the day I met her, I knew Lana would make an amazing mommy someday.  She is sweet, loving and patient.  She is always smiling; always positive.  Lana and her husband Johnny had tried getting pregnant, but after several unsuccessful attempts with In Vitro, they decided to adopt.  In September, they received the call telling them they had been chosen by a birth mom.  It took 6 years, but Lana and Johnny finally had their baby boy.  Baby Grayson was born on Dec. 30, 2012.  Lana describes that day as a dream come true.

Unfortunately, Grayson had breathing issues from the start and went to the NICU just hours after birth.  Then, 5 days later they learned that he had 3 heart defects and would need emergency open heart surgery.  He was transferred to UMC and was in surgery for 8 hours while they worked hard to save his life.  Lana stayed by Grayson’s side for 60 days, until finally they were given the good news…they were able to take their sweet little boy home.  Grayson continues to recover at home with lots of doctor appointments each week.  He still needs many medications daily, but he is happy to be home!

When I visited Lana recently, and met sweet Grayson for the first time, I was in awe.  Not only is he super handsome, but Lana has moved into motherhood beautifully.  She glows when she looks at him.  When Grayson is in her arms, they both feel at home.  She and Johnny are great parents.  While they were incredibly in love before, you can see how Grayson has brought a new kind of love into their lives and hearts.

2012 ASP Mother’s Day Raffle

The time that Grayson spent in the hospital accrued thousands of dollars in medical bills.  Thankfully, I teach at an amazing school where our community pulled together to help them, but there is still so much to be paid.  This brings me to the 2012 ASP Mother’s Day Raffle.  This year’s raffle will benefit the Sage family, helping to alleviate some of their medical debt and give them a little less stressful beginning to their life as a new family.

Tickets for the raffle are $10 each.  A winner will be drawn on May 5th.  I have left Mother’s Day open for this shoot, if the winner chooses to do it that day.  The winner will get an on location, 1-2 hour shoot, a disc of all the final edited images, a 5×7 photo book of 10 selected images, as well as a small print collection (10 4×6’s, 2 5×7’s and 1 8×10).  This package is bigger than last year’s, but the cost is the same.  Email me at for details on how to purchase your tickets.

I am really excited for this year’s raffle.  Remember, I keep no profit from this.  All of the money raised will be donated to Grayson’s medical bills.  Thank you all!

Antonia+Josh: Hacienda del Lago Wedding

March 10th.  The day that Josh and Antonia became one.

When you meet two people who are perfect for one another, it is an honor to be a part of their wedding day.  Couples like this inevitably have perfect wedding days.  Antonia and Josh are a prime example.  From her beautiful bridal glow to his boyish smile as she walked down the aisle, everything about their day was perfect.  My assistant Matt and I were lucky enough to be a part of Josh and Antonia’s perfect day.

Antonia was fortunate enough to work with Georgina D Makeup and Hair by Mayra as her beauty team.  They were amazing!

I love this perfect moment between Antonia and her mom.

While I was hanging out with the lovely ladies, Matt spent his afternoon with the boys.

I love that Josh had his dad as his best man!

The golf course at Hacienda del Lago is beautiful!

The colors at their reception were beautiful.  All of the tables and decorations were perfect.

Antonia’s niece made the most adorable flowergirl!

I absolutely love the next three images.

Antonia and Josh, thank you for choosing and trusting us with your photos.  I hope that your marriage is as beautiful and perfect as your wedding day.  .xoxo.

Shayna+Linc: A Beautiful Backyard Wedding

Shayna and Linc have a magical chemistry.  She laughs, he laughs.  She falls, he picks her up.  He needs encouragement, Shayna is there.  When they look at each other and smile, everyone around them smiles too.  Magical.

When I received an email from Shayna’s sister, Kassie, asking about wedding photography services, I was super excited.  I have known Kassie and Shayna since about 5th grade.  Though we have lost touch over the years, what I remember most about their family is the birthday parties they hosted at their house.   They were perfect.  Perfect decorations.  Perfect games.  Kassie’s parents were really nice and they always made sure we had fun.  18 years later, not much has changed.  Shayna’s parents hosted an incredible wedding at their house in Benson, AZ.  Her mom, Kathy, did a phenomenal job of making sure everything on Shayna’s special day went off without a hitch.  From the colorful table decorations to the delicate butterfly petals on the aisle, everything was perfect.   Kathy, and her husband Brian, made me and my assistant Matt feel welcome all day.  They treated us like we were guests, not vendors, and at the end of the night, we left feeling like friends.

Shayna’s bouquet was gorgeous.  I love the unique colors in this wedding.  The girls’ dresses were so pretty and they went beautifully with the bouquets.

These are Shayna’s parents.  Brian is so caring and his adoration for his daughters is apparent every time he sees them.  Kathy is fabulous.  F’real.  She was so good at orchestrating everything and getting the job done.  I told her she should pursue a career in event coordinating.   (…or maybe I can just steal her to make sure all of my weddings run smoothly.)

I am in love with Shayna’s dad’s reaction to seeing her for the first time.

As Shayna walked down the aisle, the entire crowd was smiling from ear to ear.

How cute is she!?

I can’t imagine a better reaction to being pronounced husband and wife.

This cake is amazing.  I love love love turtles!

I adored Kassie’s Maid of Honor speech.  And I also loved the reactions it received.

Can you say “My new best friend!”????

The best part of having a backyard wedding is that your pets get to be a part of your day!

Oh. My. Goodness.   Shayna, could you be any more gorgeous!?

I love this image.

This is what it is all about.  Magical.

Shayna and Linc, I was honored to be a part of your wedding day and to walk away considering you both friends.  Thank you for trusting me and Matt.  I wish you all the happiness in the world.  .xoxo.

Stephanie+Justin: UA Engagement

You know the best friend you have who finishes your sentences, busts out the cell phone pics to enhance your story and laughs at all of your jokes?  Well that’s Stephanie for Justin…and Justin for Stephanie.

I met Justin a while back because he was doing some practicum work in my classroom.  He always talked about Stephanie.  He talked about how compassionate and kind she was.  He talked about how lucky he was.  I was anxious to meet her after he spent so much time talking about how wonderful she is.  Let me tell you, she did not disappoint!  She was even more fabulous in real life than she was in the stories of internet love, wedding planning and cats.  I loved shooting their engagement session because I could totally tell how perfect they are for one another.  We spent the afternoon at the University of Arizona capturing some love.

Stephanie and Justin, I am so thankful that you chose me to be your photographer.  I adore you guys and I am excited for your wedding!
